前卫金属核（Progressive Metalcore）是极端前卫金属（Extreme Progressive Metal）和金属核（ Metalcore）的融合，是近十年来由于Periphery、Northlane等乐队的成功而崭露头角的一个子流派。前卫金属核的显著特点包括：高度技术化的吉他领奏、不寻常的拍号以及在歌曲创作中使用对比强烈的段落。不可否认的是， Djent与前卫金属核有很多重叠之处，但这两个词绝不是同义词，因为有些Djent乐队并非前卫金属核，反之亦然。
