Dungeonwave是以地牢合成器（Dungeon Synth）为基础，与合成器浪潮（ Synthwave）及其子流派，可能还有恐怖合成器（Horror Synth）、太空合成器（ Spacesynth）等其他上世纪80年代的怀旧合成器流派交叉融合而成的一个标签化流派。有些音乐家只有一两首歌，因此可以代表Dungeonwave的“专辑”较少。与典型的地牢合成器相比，Dungeonwave的打击乐更加明显（但并不像军事地牢合成器/Martial Dungeon Synth那样充满威胁或不祥），在偏向Drop的部分，鼓点会呈现出非常规律的4/4拍。
