“民间恐怖”（Folk Horror）指的是一种阴森、神秘的民间氛围或美学，并不是一个真正的音乐流派，而更像是一个场景/一种现象。最初出现在20世纪60年代至70年代的某些英国恐怖电影中，如《The Wicker Man》。此后，这一术语的使用范围也扩大到音乐和文学领域，有些制作人会有意将民间恐怖元素融入他们的音乐中，比如The Incredible String Band的《Witches Hat》等歌曲具有女巫/巫师的Folk Horror氛围或维度。而The Hare and the Moon和The Owl Service等乐队则围绕这一主题创造了一个较为完整的场景，这些乐队的作品被称为“Wyrd Folk”。
