Nouveau zydeco为当代Zydeco增添了新的元素，其中最重要的是融入了放克（ Funk）、当代R&B（Contemporary R&B）和嘻哈（ Hip Hop）的元素。这种融合的灵感来源于20世纪80年代末，当时，Zydeco界的一些乐队将Clifton Chenier演奏的这一流派的当代特征（以手风琴演奏为基础的舞曲、蓝调的影响以及传统的黑人克里奥尔和 Cajun音乐的影响）演化成了这一流派。Beau Jocque & The Zydeco Hi-Rollers、Zydeco Force以这些元素为核心，通过扩大贝斯和鼓的占比和响度，开发了一系列Nouveau zydeco的声音。
