抗议民谣（Protest Folk）又叫话题民谣（Topical Folk）、政治民谣（Political Folk），由Phil Ochs大力推广，虽然不是一个官方的民谣音乐流派，但确实是民谣的一个重要分支，有别于流行化的民谣（如 Folk Pop）。Protest Folk作为抗议活动的民谣在大萧条时期兴起，并延续至今，最常见的主题是反战，和反对对工人阶级的剥削。在民谣摇滚（ Folk Rock）逐渐取代当代民谣（Contemporary Folk）的地位之后，民谣的“抗议”主题在民谣摇滚中仍有体现，被称为“Folk Rock Protest”。
