“洞穴核”（Caverncore）又名“风洞死亡金属”（Wind Tunnel Death Metal）（有人也认为风洞死亡金属是洞穴核的前身），是一个偏玩笑的戏称，它源于人们过度使用“洞穴般的”一词来描述某种特定死亡金属（ Death Metal）流派的制作水准——这种流派介于Incantation风格的老派死亡金属复兴（Old School Death Metal Revival）与黑化死亡金属（ Blackened Death Metal）之间。
洞穴核的特征在于极度低保真或非主流的制作风格，受90年代早期死亡金属启发的吉他段/鼓点风格，以及神秘主义/玄学主题。该流派与澳大利亚乐队Portal关系密切，同时与Nuclear War Now! Productions及Dark Descent两家厂牌紧密关联。
