残酷死亡金属（Brutal Death Metal）是死亡金属（Death Metal）的一个子流派，兴起于20世纪90年代早期。残酷死亡金属通常使用激烈的Blast Beat、沉重而快速的乐段和节奏感极强的Riff，在Suffocation乐队的作品中有明显的体现。
残酷死亡金属由Suffocation、Broken Hope等乐队开创，他们用混乱、无韵律的节奏和低沉的吟唱取代了Morbid Angel、Entombed等早期死亡金属重量级乐队的敲击金属（ Thrash Metal）风格相关的元素。残酷死亡金属乐队经常使用曲折蜿蜒的歌曲结构，这一点与技术死亡金属（Technical Death Metal）重叠（ Technical Brutal Death Metal）。有些残酷死亡金属乐队加倍强调该流派固有的强度，摒弃明显的技术性，转而将该流派与血碾（ Goregrind）、死碾（Deathgrind）等碾核（ Grindcore）子流派相结合。有关血腥、暴力的歌词是残酷死亡金属的主流，不过也有一些乐队（如Wormed）选择使用科幻小说甚至受德米利奇启发的洛夫克拉夫特风格的歌词。
20世纪90年代后半期，残酷死亡金属的一个子流派——Slam Death Metal开始在美国发展起来。Internal Bleeding、Repudilation强调用Breakdown乐段来表现“Slam”（最著名的是Suffocation的《Liege of Inveracity》）。Devourment的《Molesting the Decapitated》专辑被广泛认为是Slam的里程碑，对Slam的影响至今不衰。
