复古金属（Retro-Metal）用来指那些主要灵感来源于70年代早期重金属（Heavy Metal）的乐队，尤其是Blue Öyster Cult、Thin Lizzy等乐队，当然还有Black Sabbath。在过去的十年中，复古金属已发展成为一个非常受欢迎的音乐流派，并随着Ghost乐队的成功而成为主流。
从风格上看，复古金属介于通常更蓝调（Blues）的复古硬摇滚（Retro-Hard Rock）和从80年代早期的传统重金属中汲取灵感的传统重金属新浪潮（ NWOTHM）之间。大多数乐队也属于石人金属（Stoner Metal）、传统厄运金属（ Traditional Doom Metal）、Heavy Psych的范畴，但他们的共同点都是毫不掩饰的“复古感”。复古金属与 Occult Rock Revival也有一定重合度。
