1991年，随着另类广播电台对Grunge的追捧，合成器流行（ Synthpop）在美国逐渐失去了商业价值。另类舞曲（Alternative Dance）和 Indietronica也使这一已经“老化”的音乐流派失去了支持。在欧洲，虽然合成器流行音乐的风格又回到了其起源时的一些偏阴暗的地下化的声音，并与 EBM不断交叉，但人们对它的支持仍在继续。
